Have you ever said to yourself, “I really wish I could find a books about a middle aged mom who has anxiety but still tries to make life normal for her kid? All while helping solve crimes?” Me too! That’s why I started writing “The Tuxedo Cat Mysteries.”
I love cozy mysteries. I do. It didn’t take me long to notice the protagonist was going to be a young adult just starting out or a retiree. Where were the women like me? Carb eating, yoga pants wearing, coffee addicted, mom just trying to make the best out of some bad situations. That’s me. And I knew I wasn’t the only one. And so, I followed the advise so many writers hear. “If you don’t see the book you want to read on the shelf, write it.” Or however that goes.
Meet my main female character, Crystal Dawn England. Crystal is newly divorced. She and her teen daughter live in Crystal’s grandparents’ house; Grams and PopPop moved to Boca. She’s a writer for a local magazine. She adopted a cat, Bonnie Boo, shortly after moving. It didn’t take long to realize Bonnie Boo was more than just a curious cat. After a spring break vacation with her daughter, Crystal comes home to another Bonnie Boo discovery. A dead body in the pool. Who is the person in the pool? How did they get there? And how can Crystal maintain a sense of normalcy for her family? “Nothing Like a Pool Party” is the 1st in “The Tuxedo Cat Mysteries” is coming soon. And by soon, I mean March 20th.
Now, it wouldn’t be fair to mention inspiration behind this series without talking about Bonnie Boo.
Meet the inspiration behind “The Tuxedo Cat Mysteries”. Bonnie Boo was the first cat I got when I moved into my apartment. She was with me up to the end of my relationship. It’s like she knew I needed her through all of it. She was grumpy and loud and headbutted me when she wanted attention. I love her and hope she’s eating all the chicken on the other side. This series is my way of remembering her and sharing her with everyone
So, there you have it. The reason and the inspiration behind “The Tuxedo Cat Mysteries”.
