As summer comes to an end, my kids and I are all feeling a little bit of sadness. It’s been a fun-filled three months, full of swimming, barbecues, and trips to the park. But as the days get shorter and the weather starts to cool down, we all know that it’s time to say goodbye to summer.
Saying goodbye to summer isn’t easy, but there are a few things that help make the transition a little bit easier. For starters, I like to take advantage of the last few weeks of warm weather by spending as much time outdoors as possible. We go for walks, play in the park, and enjoy cookouts with friends and family.
My 8 year old is especially sad, because he knows that he won’t be able to go swimming as often now that school is back in session. And my 19 year old is already talking about how much she’s going to miss being able to sleep in late and spend lazy afternoons at the pool.
But we’re trying to make the most of these last few days of summer. We’re going to make sure to soak up as much sun as possible, eat our favorite summer foods, and take lots of walks in the park.
Another way to say goodbye to summer is by soaking up the last bit of sun. My husband and I like to relax on the deck in the evenings, reading books and enjoying a glass of wine while the kids run around playing tag or catch.
And even though we’ll miss summer, we’re all excited for the new adventures that autumn will bring. We can’t wait to start pumpkin picking, go on hikes in the woods, and drink warm apple cider around a campfire. I like to get my fall decorating done early so that I can start enjoying the autumnal vibes as soon as possible. This year I’ve already put up my fall wreath and garland, and I’m working on filling my home with all things pumpkin spice.
Saying goodbye to summer is always bittersweet, but by embracing the fun memories we’ve made and getting ready for all things autumn, we can make the transition a little bit easier.
So goodbye, summer. We’ll miss you, but we’re excited for what’s ahead!
